About me

IMG_1050How does it feel if instead of paying to train in a gym, you get paid? You are also given a bonus of reading and learning about training and exercise too. What’s more? You get to hang out with athletes and coaches from the developmental up to the elite level.

Well, it can be exciting and draining like any job. Working in a gym is great and working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach can be an amazing experience. Although many people still do not know what we strength coaches do, neither do we… Well, that is a joke.

My name is Val, and I have been working in this industry for more than a decade now. And this is my site where I try to answer some questions thrown to me by athletes I train, or their coaches, or my friends and acquaintances who may not be athletes but are looking for ways to improve their health and fitness.

There are a lot of misconceptions in this area and people get confused. It makes it a bit harder for us to do our job which is to make the athletes into better athletes by making them stronger. There can also be a lot of disagreement within our profession. Each one claiming to be better than the other, and usually the louder mouth has the shallower head. But it is not wise get into that discussion since each situation is different and nothing is written in stone in this profession. What is true today may not be true tomorrow.

We often get questions and the answers are usually not so simple that it takes a lot of discussion. That is why I thought of writing my thoughts down and making it as a quick reference. It also made me realize that there are a lot of things I thought I knew well but actually not much. (And vice versa of course!).

People want to improve their life. Health and fitness is one aspect that determines the quality of how we live. Improving physical strength has a positive rippling effect on life. Add a good conditioning program to be able to sustain that strength and ripples can become waves. If we are given the information we need and a plan to execute, it helps us to change for the better. The information shared here is nothing new. It was passed on from countless mentors and is presented from my point of view after the processes have been observed from the different conditions that have been encountered.
